Yes, your highness. I shall do thy bidding. I shall not suggest, nay, not for a moment, not the slightest hint, to do otherwise. Thou shall have thy wish served immediately. For I was, ( and oh, your papa and your bhaiya and your grandparents) made for you.
You have always been a part of my life. For as long as I remember, the word “my daughter” would always pop up in my head when ever I thought of anything futuristic.
My daughter will not be coy, shy or homely. I’ll teach her to be the go getter. To be the fighter. She will be the karate champ. Fearless. Opinionated. Questioning. Determined. Unrelenting.
I had plans to defy the whole great (?) Indian patriarchy through you. You would be my ultimate rebellion. I guess, as a teenager I fantasized more about you than about a guy 🙂
Little did I know that I wouldn’t have to “teach” any of these traits. You would be BORN with them. My-darling-just-turned-two-daughter, you are just like what I imagined you to be. You MUST have your way. No amount of pacification, reprimands, distraction helps once you have made up your mind. You are fiercely independent and fearless. Even the older kids dare not mess with you. That is why they say, “Be careful what you wish for. It might just come true.” 😉
That said, you are also my cuddly-buddly baby. The one who gives me tight hugs. The one who plants wet kisses on my cheek. The one who sequels with delight when I am back from office. The one who makes the cutest face in the whole world when she asks for “cho-ke-tte”. The one who has the most mischievous twinkle in her eye after she has secretly eaten one. The one who snuggles into my arms to sleep and as soon as she wakes up. Sigh. How I wish you stay two forever!
Happy Birthday my dream come true. Please don’t grow up so fast.
